The Manchurian Candidate
A brazenly political film, this is the rare film that either ending might happen (and I won't spoil it for you). The acting is solid if not spectacular, although I thought Denzel Washington was a tank commander in the Gulf War, not in reconnaissance. It didn't strain credibility that much, aside from Major Marco taking 13 years to find a bump in his back. The use of faux news (not to be confused with Fox News) was effective in narrating the story, and for once a summer movie revolved on plot, not special effects.
The filmmakers need to brush up on the Electoral College but otherwise a solid effort.
*** 1/2
